On the Patriot Custom we start with an extra deeply carved maple top on a hand selected mahogany body. The set-in neck is tightly fit to assure maximum sustain and performance. Installed in this best-in-class body is a set of Rockfield SWC Pickups. The Rockfield SWC Pickups give the Custom a high output edge, while retaining a classic humbucker tone. To give you the full impact of these special pickups we have direct mounted the pickups and include a coil tap for each pickup. The coil taps allow you to switch each pickup from a full humbucker tone, to a single coil tone with a simple push-pull pot. An ebony fingerboard, recessed control knobs, Grover® tuners, real abalone block inlays, TonePros locking bridge and an amazing flame maple top round out a stunning feature set

I am a fifty-six year old amateur, still taking lessons, but before this my main guitar was an '84 American Strat, so I had a top quality guitar to compare others against.I was originally looking for a Gibson Les Paul-style guitar to compare against the Strat, and had picked-up a new Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Studio Deluxe Electric Guitar about a month earlier. The Epiphone is a very good guitar, but the machine heads were not great and needed to be changed (I went with Grovers), which brought the total cost of the Epiphone up to the cost of the MK Patriot Custom. The Epiphone is a great guitar to experiment with changing the hardware to see how much the sound and is changed by the successive hardware changes (I will probably change the pickups on it to Seymour Duncan Hotrods sometime later). I wanted one in the classic Les Paul style but the high price tag was a problem. I saw this recommended on one of my guitar talk sites,could not find it anywhere to try, so I ordered it sight unseen from Amazon. WOW!. I dont know how they do it for the price. The fit and finish is first rate, the action is right up there with guitars costing 5 times as much and the tone is outstanding. A pure work of art. I ordered mine with the maple finish and it is just beautiful. It was hard to find a case to fit because the shape is slightly different than other companies, so I contacted Michael Kelly direct and got one made just for it. Their customer service is first rate and shipping was very fast. Great people to deal with should the need arise. I bought this guitar from the German store in Frankfurt (Old Guitar Fan talked about the video on youtube). I was really impressed by this guitar, too. It looks, feels and sounds incredibly good. And all this for a damned good price. Unfortunately they are sold out here in Germany now. But I hope they will come back again soon. I got two other MK Patriots (supreme and limited Bubinga) and they are as perfect as the custom - I really don't know, how MK can do this for that money. One thing I can say: I'm a Michael Kelly Fan right now!! |
