I am not one to splurge on myself and consider myself a frugal man, but I pulled the trigger on the 2011 American Special Telecaster in white. The guitar is perfect, great frets, nicely finished, nice neck pocket, really cool retro bridge with three brass saddles, stable tuners, nice gig bag. Sounds great through my Fender Blues Jr, Peavey Classic 30 and Classic 50. I have been playing guitar and in bands since 1985. This was my first American Fender guitar and I love it. I play mostly rock (classic, southern) some country, funk, punk and surf and this guitar handles it all and passes with flying colors (mostly because I am awesome! (just kidding, lol)). I highly recommend this Telecaster. I also recommend the Amazon vendor that filled my order Austin Bazaar out of Austin Texas. I had a couple questions about the guitar, one phone call was answered by a real person who was knowledgeable and... This is my fourth Telecaster and I still own 3 from my original Tele quiver. Of course, the one I sold in the early 80's was my very first one, a pre-CBS Esquire :( As for my new American Special, it's a real keeper. I can't take my hands off it. This completely nails all the Tele sounds from twang to warm jazz. I'm not knowledgeable about the mechanics of what makes a great playing/sounding Guitar but I know when I'm playing a great one. This model is the best American made value I've ever come across as far as teles' go. I didn't really need it but after playing it I had to have it!It's marketed with a deluxe gig bag, which I immediately upgraded to a Fender road case. This is a well built, bare-bones, basic Tele. The frets are comfortable, the neck is fast and it stays in tune. It's light weight. The shiny finish is great looking. The 3 brass saddle bridge makes it a real Tele as far as I'm concerned. I feel there's... Mine is the three tone sunburst, and the pictures don't do her justice. This tele is less of a country girl than some of her cousins. She's got a little less twang and more snap and bite. Still the classic tele, but with a touch more sophistication. I can't imagine anyone who likes the tele sound not loving this instrument. |
