The neck is a bit wide, as would be expected from a 12-string, but not wide enough to be a problem. On the official Ovation website, they say this guitar has a solid spruce top, but when I look through the soundholes I can distinctly see that the top is composed of three layers of wood. I would think this would make it a laminated top . . . Plugged in, the guitar sounds excellent, the three band equalizer is very convenient. I do not lose quality by plugging this guitar in.
