Epiphone Les Paul Ultra: Featuring Legendary Tone and a Lighter Weight
It's hard to improve on perfection, but the new Les Paul Ultra does just that. It features a scientifically designed chambered mahogany body which yields a more acoustic sound along with its revolutionary lighter weight (about 5.5 to 7.0 pounds). The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra is the perfect guitar for anyone who has wanted real LP tone, but was a little afraid of the weight. Epiphone took the Les Paul and carved away over three pounds, mostly with specially designed chambers on the inside, and a belly-friendly contour on the back.
The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra: Meeting the High Standards of a Legend No other guitar is met with such reverence as the Les Paul. Originally introduced by Gibson in 1952, the guitar is now the standard of excellence in soildbody electric guitars, sought after and played by top guitarists around the world.
Still garnering legendary tone and sustain with a touch of acoustic sweetness, the carved mahogany body features a quilted maple top with a set, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. This beauty is voiced by a pair of high-output Alnico Classic Humbuckers, aided by Gold Grover tuners, with the new Epiphone LockTone locking Tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece that pours out even more rich sustained tone.
Now, Epiphone brings a new twist to this rock guitar legend and icon with the new LP Ultra. While maintaining the key elements and integrity of a Les Paul, the Ultra features a unique Mahogany body with strategically placed hollow cavities, providing not only a lighter weight (5.5 - 7.0 lbs) but also a more resonant sound.
Other unique features include a belly-contour on the back that comfortably hugs your body, a slightly narrower nut (42mm) with a very fast, satin-finish neck, Epiphone's new LockTone Stopbar/Tuneomatic system and a rich Grade "A" Quilted maple top for outstanding looks.
The new generation of Les Pauls is here and it starts with the Epiphone LP Ultra.

My first Les Paul, especially. Unlike most of them, this guitar is very light, which is great. When at first glance, you would think it would weigh 20 pounds, but it's light as a feather. Now, it sounds great, too. I played it on my Peavey Vypyr 15; not the best amp, but it sounds great. Since the amp can't project the best quality, you can't really hear the pickups "scream." I played it at guitar center on a 15W Line 6 and it sounded amazing! Assuming you play it on the right amp, it will sound amazing. Also, I found it there for $399; even though it's listed on here for anywhere from $749-$1400. If you find one this cheap, get it quick! Now, this guitar is absolutely beautiful. Everything about the finish is great. It stays in tune great as well. There is a pick guard. At first, it bothered me; because, in my opinion, a Les Paul is not meant to have a pick guard. But it really works. Because everything looks... I don't play guitar so can't comment on that aspect, but he loves it. BE CAREFUL: You must send in the warranty card or register online 15 days after receiving the product. I think that is an absurdly short window of time. Also: Several strings were buzzing so we had to pay $95 for a professional set-up. Yeah, we could have sent it back for service, but what a hassle on an item this size. The list Amazon price is wildly inflated -- don't pay over $599 for this guitar. |
